Before Pharrell Williams became the superstar artist he is today, he worked at McDonald's — except he was fired not once, not twice, but THREE times.

In a new interview with BBC Radio 2, Williams recalled that McDonald's was his very first job and why he was let go three times. He explained, "McDonald’s was my first and only job. I got fired three times. I was eating the chicken nuggets."

Nuggets aside, McD's cut Pharrell loose for other reasons. He remembered, "The first two times it was just because I was lazy. The third was like, 'What are you doing? You’re just sitting there eating nuggets?'"

It seems that the fast food industry was just not meant to be for Pharrell, because he went on to become a super successful artist and producer, finding success with The Neptunes, then with N.E.R.D., and finally, as a solo artist. He co-founded the record label Star Trak Entertainment, and has won countless awards, including 13 Grammy Awards, both as an artist and producer.

In 2014, he also received the iHeartRadio Innovator Award at the first-ever iHeartRadio Music Awards, which honors an artist that has proven themselves to have impacted global pop culture throughout their career.

You could say all of the chicken nugget-eating paid off.
