R. KELLY: Dropped by Sony

TeeRoy's 2 Cents:

  • This actually saves both sides a lot of money in legal fees.
  • There's nothing in the documentary that a decent investigator couldn't have turned up in 2012, when Sony's lawyers OK'd the deal.
  • It seems like Kells is counting on cashing in on by suing Lifetime.
  • Is it just me, or do you feel like we'd already know the truth if Aaliyah were still with us?

Multiple media outlets, notably Billboard, report that the two sides have agreed to end his contract, which he signed in 2012. The label has been under heavy public pressure since allegations of sexual abuse and misconduct re-emerged with the airing of the Surviving R. Kelly documentary. He's also been removed from Sony's website.

This isn't actually a huge leap -- as we reported, Sony had actually put Kelly's projects on hold.
