A security guard who had disarmed and subdued a gunman Sunday night at a Chicago-area bar was shot and killed when a police officer mistook him for the suspect.
Police were responding to a report of shots fired inside of Manny's Blue Room Bar. 26-year-old security guard Jemel Roberson tackled the gunman and took away his gun. He then kept him pinned on the floor while waiting for police. But when officers arrived, one of them saw Roberson on top of the suspect while pointing a gun at him and thought he was the suspect. The officer opened fire and fatally shot Roberson.
After he was shot, bystanders screamed out, "Security! He was a security guard." The police department confirmed that officers responded to a report of shots fired inside the bar and when they saw a man with a gun, they opened fire. The incident is under investigation. Meanwhile, a rally is planned for this afternoon to protest the police department. (WGN-TV)
