JAY-Z: Invests in Injustice App

TeeRoy's 2 Cents:

  • Earlier this year, Hov invested in Robin Hood -- an app that makes the stock market and cryptocurrency more accessible.
  • He's done a lot to raise awareness about injustice, including TV projects about Trayvon Martin and Kalief Browder.
  • We'd love to see more moguls follow Hov's lead.
  • Being a boss isn't just about caking up. Sometimes it's about doing what's right.

Hov's Roc Nation has invested $3 million into a new app called Promise, designed to reduce the prison population and improve the U.S. criminal justice system. Promise aims to create "a cost-effective and more humane alternative to incarceration” by utilizing smartphone technology.

The app offers tools including financial assistance to help afford bail, an "intelligent calendar" to help fulfill court-mandated obligations (like court appearances and drug tests) and in-person support for job training, counseling, housing and more. The app is for both individual parolees and government agencies.

Jay says, “Money, time and lives are wasted with the current policies. It’s time for an innovative and progressive technology that offers sustainable solutions to tough problems. Promise’s team...is building an app that can help provide ‘liberty and justice for all’ to millions.”

Promise will be unveiled at Y Combinator Demo Day today (Tuesday), though a public release date has yet to be announced. (Rolling Stone)
