Two Texas Men Killed When Trying To Jump Their Car Over Open Drawbridge

A pair of men from Texas were killed after they tried to jump an open drawbridge in their car. The Louisiana State Police received a call that a car had landed in the water after trying to clear the Black Bayou Bridge on Louisiana Highway 384 near Lake Charles.

A witness told authorities that one of the men got out of the car and manually lifted the gate that is meant to stop vehicles from driving into the water while the drawbridge is open. He then got back into the car, and the driver backed up and attempted to clear the 165-gap. He did not get far, and his 2016 Chevrolet Cruze hit the water and sank to the bottom.

When police arrived, they found the driver was dead in the car, while his passenger managed to escape from the vehicle but had drowned while trying to get to the surface.

Officials have identified the two men as 23-year-old Alejandro Cazares and 32-year-old Roberto Alejandro. They are trying to determine if drugs or alcohol were involved in their fatal decision.
